It           is the simplest and the least costly model; it uses a protection process            based on the assignment of a unique and personal internal code: the            Identification Code or Id-Code.
<br />
The algorithm based protection (thus            not providing fixed answers) utilizes encrypted operations relating            to the internal code. The Id-Code is used as the main coding parameter;            a block of data is sent and returned duly encrypted in a different            form for each Id-Code. 

The            presence of the key can be detected by comparing the returned data            with the expected data. If they coincide, the program runs normally,            otherwise, the execution may be stopped.

<br /><br />The most rapid and highly impact way to have an overview          on SmartKey  benefits and services is to ask for the Developer's          Kit, which will allow you to verify the SmartKey  advanced technological          features. Together with the Developer's Kit you will be assigned a personal          code (id-code), permanently recorded in the key memory area, which will          also be utilized for any other key you might purchase in the future. <strong>GSS-shell: automatic protection of executable files</strong>
The          Global Security for SmartKey (GSS) is the fastest method to protect the          programs, as it does not request the source modification. The utility          GSS-shell is supplied with the Development Kit; starting from a .EXE          files, in a few seconds it obtains a second .EXE file perfectly compatible          with the first, but fully encrypted, which can be operated only with          the key. When executed, only if the SmartKey is present, the software          is immediately decodified. Furthermore, it enables an antivirus check          on the protected program; this can detect any modification or alteration          of the .EXE original file caused by viruses or hackers. GSS allows the          users of the SmartKey not only to protect their applications, but also          to encrypt automatically the files of data in whatever format, written,          read or created by the protected program. Therefore, GSS prevents the          files of data related to the application from being improperly divulgated,          particularly if they contain confidential information, such as the corporate          accounting, list of customers, project data, technical or trading database. <br />

The  utility SPC is supplied with the Development Kit and allows you to  customize some security codes in the programmable SmartKeys (PR, EP, SP  and NET). In facts, in addition to a personal and unique code (Id-Code)  given upon generation, the SmartKey contains two other security codes  (Label and Password), which can be defined by the software-house, and a  series of memory bytes that you can access only through the security  codes. <br />
  SPC     is a fundamental instrument to initialize and control the keys, as it allows you:

  <li>Program the key memory content </li>
  <li>Check the data contained in the keys, if you know the codes </li>
  <li>Check the fraudulent attempts of access to the key (available for EP,SP,NET) </li>

It's the ideal model type for more flexible applications, where every           single software package requires customization; for instance in program           serialization operations.

In addition to the algorithmic code and data protection process applied           to SmartKey-FX, SmartKey-PR is also programmable: a built-in 64-byte read/write           memory area within the key is accessible only by sending two 16-byte access           codes named Label and Password. The data stored inside the key are called           Secure Data, as the holder of the password alone can read or write them.

The Label and Password codes are software programmable and do not require           the assistance of any external programming device. It is thus possible           to assign a different key program to every program needing protection.           The data stored can be dynamically varied by the protected program, generating           extremely sophisticated applications such as the use of the data themselves           as access counter.

SmartKey-PR utilizes a double-lock protection system: security is ensured           by the univocal factory-assigned Id-code as well as the programmed password           and data which are known only to the software house.

It          expands the security features of previously listed models and is highly          recommeded for high security applications, such as access control to        data banks, confidential programs, etc. <br />

Besides using the same protection          systems adopted by SmartKey-PR, SmartKey-EP makes it possible to detect          all access attempts through erroneous password: a built-in counter (Fail          Counter) returns the number of fraudulent access attempts enabling the          legal software owner to understake any action deemed useful to defend          the programs (e.g., the destruction of the key's contents or of the confidential          data after a preset number of attempts). <br />

<strong>GSS-shell: automatic protection of executable files</strong>
The          Global Security for SmartKey (GSS) is the fastest method to protect the          programs, as it does not request the source modification. The utility          GSS-shell is supplied with the Development Kit; starting from a .EXE          files, in a few seconds it obtains a second .EXE file perfectly compatible          with the first, but fully encrypted, which can be operated only with          the key. When executed, only if the SmartKey is present, the software          is immediately decodified. Furthermore, it enables an antivirus check          on the protected program; this can detect any modification or alteration          of the .EXE original file caused by viruses or hackers. GSS allows the          users of the SmartKey not only to protect their applications, but also          to encrypt automatically the files of data in whatever format, written,          read or created by the protected program. Therefore, GSS prevents the          files of data related to the application from being improperly divulgated,          particularly if they contain confidential information, such as the corporate          accounting, list of customers, project data, technical or trading database. <br />

   <strong> SPC: SmartKey code programming </strong>
The  utility SPC is supplied with the Development Kit and allows you to  customize some security codes in the programmable SmartKeys (PR, EP, SP  and NET). In facts, in addition to a personal and unique code (Id-Code)  given upon generation, the SmartKey contains two other security codes  (Label and Password), which can be defined by the software-house, and a  series of memory bytes that you can access only through the security  codes. <br />
  SPC     is a fundamental instrument to initialize and control the keys, as it allows you: 
<ul>
  <li>To customize the keys programming Label and Password </li>
  <li>Program the key memory content </li>
  <li>Check the data contained in the keys, if you know the codes </li>
  <li>Check the fraudulent attempts of access to the key (available for EP,SP,NET) </li>
  <li>‘Freeze' the key content (available for SP and NET) </li>
  <li>Restore  the default values in the key, if some programming errors have been  committed (stated that you have not ‘frozen' the content before). </li>
  <li>Program the personal encryption algorithms (available for SP and NET) </li>

Furthermore, SPC is a good tutorial as well as a debug instrument, as  it allows you to carry out manually on the key all the operations not  performed by the software drivers

It          is the model specifically developed for local network applications (LAN).        SmartKey-NET aimes at:

  <li>Protecting local network software against illegal duplication. </li>
  <li>Monitoring the number of users who can simultaneously use the protected          application (site licenses). </li>

<p> The protection consists of a single SmartKey-NET          key to be installed on any computer of the network. <br />

  SmartKey-NET        can handle several different network users, the highest allowable number        being programmable into the key itself. The number of users enabled          to utilize the same software package (site license) can be defined.          Thanks to the MAP technology                a single SmartKey-NET can protect different applications and set                a fixed number of users and executions for each of them.

<p><strong>AutoRun</strong> <br>
  Support of autorun function differs according to the  operating system in use. <br>
  Microsoft Windows XP: supported with any configuration  and position. <br>
  Microsoft Windows 2000: in case there are more CD  partitions on the device, autorun is supported only for the CD-ROM partition in  a lower position. For instance, if a device is configured as MS + CD + CD + WP,  the autorun of the CD in position one (1) will be started, while the autorun of  the CD in position two (2) will not be started. <br>
  Microsoft Windows ME: the autorun is not supported. <br>
  Microsoft Windows 98se: the autorun is started after  double-clicking on the unit displayed by Explorer. The CD partition must be the  only one present in the device. </p>
<p><strong>Smartkey</strong> <br>
  Supported by Microsoft Windows 98se/Me/2000/XP  operating systems. <br>
  Under Win98se it is necessary to install the operating  system HID support. </p>
