In the last few years the publishing world has undergone deep innovations; for instance, the distribution of editorials through the network has taken on a strategic importance, enough to replace the papery editions of some newspapers. The world of online magazine subscriptions has passed through a period of huge commercial expansion these last years. Concurrently with this shift in the market several hitches have cropped up. Eutronsec, with the aim of supporting the publishing houses in the solution of any problems connected with secure distribution of publishing materials, has created two solutions that surmount the question in two different ways:
WebOTP is a USB token which can generate passwords automatically, without requiring any further input from the user and by enabling secure authentication via a WEB server. The main feature of this token is the possibility to send authentication information via the USB port of the computer, without having to install any software and/or driver and without any need for administrator privileges either.
WebOTP enables replacing the former login and password system, saving the user the trouble of the registration phase. The key can be purchased online or at newsstands and bookshops with a preloaded subscription; once in possession of the key, for accessing the content immediately the subscriber just has to type in the Internet address reported on the label and insert the key in the USB port.
KeySec is a plug-in (additional module) that exploits the most widespread electronic format for content disclosure: PDF.
KeySec is installed with Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Reader programs. The device avails itself of Adobe Acrobat standard protective functions (content copy, document editing or printing) and implements them by adding the possibility to encrypt the documents in order to make them accessible only for those who possess an authorized key.
With
KeySec it is also possible to check the period of validity both of the document and of the USB key that is necessary for opening it, to manage several security profiles within the same document in order to guarantee maximum flexibility, and to modify the remotely-distributed key profiles by accessing the database from a WEB page. The practicalness of such a device is ensured by the possibility of distributing it with already defined profiles. Once in possession of the key the user just has to insert in the USB port for accessing the content immediately and for a lapse of time that is established by the publisher.
Thanks to these new systems online subscriptions will be user-friendly and instant, as the product distribution is made simple and the publisher is guaranteed greater security as regards the subscribers’ unique access, since a password can be stolen and used by various users whilst a key can only be used by its owner. Such solutions can support other already active solutions without generating any conflicts, as their implementation on the distributing systems is extremely easy and does not require any large investments. Besides, the dual selling, online and territorial channel offers an advantage that opens up new trade opportunities.
